Vojnomir
Vojnomir ( Latin Uuonomir ), referred to in the imperial annals as Wonomir the Slav ( Uuonomir sclavus or Uuonomyr sclavus ), was the first known South Slavic Knes of Lower Pannonia ( dux Pannoniae ) from before 791 to after 795 .
In 791 Vojnomir fought alongside Charlemagne against the Avars in southeastern Europe . After the victory he was used as Prince of Pannonia under Franconian rule. To do this he had to be baptized as a Catholic . In 795 he took part again in battles against the Avars and was then enfeoffed with rule over Pannonia, Dalmatia and Slavonia .
