Mullet hairstyle

Mullet is the short form for " vo rne ku March, hi nth la ng" and refers to the appropriate hairstyle .

history

This hairstyle was 'trendy' from around 1982 to 1987, but has also appeared later and until today in variations. Their creation can, however, be traced back to the late 1960s or early 1970s, for example, to a lesser extent, in David Bowie . It is characterized by pony fringes on the forehead , short, sometimes shaved hair on the sides and at least shoulder-length hair on the back of the head - the latter part is also referred to as a neck spoiler , (kicker or manta) mat , but was not given much else either common names.

Well-known wearers of this hairstyle were Bono and Nik Kershaw 1983, George Michael , Richard Dean Anderson , Dieter Bohlen , Matthias Reim , David Hasselhoff , Wolfgang Petry , Chuck Norris , Rudi Völler , Patrick Swayze , Hartmut Engler , Jaromír Jágr (in the Czech Republic this hairstyle is also known as "Jágr") and many more. The haircut was also popular with professional soccer players and their fans.

The combination of the mullet cut with a mustache leads to an expansion of the range of terms. In this case one speaks of Vokuhila-Oliba (whereby Oliba is the abbreviation for “ O ber li ppen ba rt”) or of Vokuhila-Mishnah (whereby Mishnah is the abbreviation for “ mi t Schna uzer”). While Oliba is the common name in Germany , Mishnah is mainly used in Austria .

In the late 1980s, the hairstyle was replaced by the " rat tail ", especially among schoolchildren .

music

The music group Die Ärzte dedicated a song to the mullet on their concept album Le Frisur , released in 1996 , which deals exclusively with the subject of hair. The electroformation massive in humans also wrote a song about this "species".

The band Fokuhila from Austria dedicates itself exclusively to the mullet phenomenon and all its excesses in a complete, full-length show that was originally created through their satirical appraisal of the Musikantenstadl .

Mats Söderlund (most known as "Günther") also wears a mullet-oliba hairstyle in his music videos.

The musician Finch Asocial wears a mullet Oliba, but mostly in combination with a baseball cap .
