Volker Juergens

Volker Juergens (born January 14, 1936 in Karlsruhe ; † April 17, 2013 in Aurich ) was a Lutheran theologian and long-time state superintendent for the Ostfriesland-Ems district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover , based in Aurich.

Live and act

After studying Protestant theology and oriental studies in Bethel , Tübingen and Göttingen , Volker Jürgens was ordained on October 6, 1964. In 1966, he took over his first parish pastor in Wunstorf near Hanover. In 1971 he moved to Selsingen as a pastor .

In 1983, Jürgens was appointed to Buxtehude as superintendent of the Buxtehude church district.

In 1989, Volker Jürgens was finally appointed state superintendent for the Ostfriesland-Ems district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover and held this position until his retirement in 2001. His successor was Oda-Gebbine Holze-Stäblein .

Other functions

From 1976 to 1989 Jürgens was a member of the Synod of the Regional Church of Hanover , from 1979 to 1985 a member of the General Synod of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germany (VELKD) and from 1983 to 1986 a member of the Synod of the Confederation of Protestant Churches in Lower Saxony . For many years he was also a member of the mission committee of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Lower Saxony (ELM) in Hermannsburg .
