Geographical location

Volkertshausen is located north of Lake Constance in Hegau on the Radolfzeller Aach , about nine kilometers from Singen (Hohentwiel) . With a municipal area of ​​514 hectares , Volkertshausen is the smallest municipality in the district of Constance.

Neighboring communities

The community borders in the north on the city of Aach , in the east on Steißlingen , in the south on the city of Singen and in the west on Mühlhausen-Ehingen .

Historical geography

history

The place Volcholtshusen was first mentioned as a document in 1250; other names were Volkoltzhusen (1275) and Volkartshusen (1301).

In 1501 Volkertshausen was sold to Johann Jakob von Bodman and from his family around 1519 to Hans Schlupf zu Aach. In 1522 the place came to the von Heggelbach family, in 1594 the lordship of Langenstein acquired the village back. The Counts of Welsperg, who then sat on Langenstein, the founders and promoters of the Volkertshausen industry, kept Volkertshausen until 1814. In 1826, Volkertshausen was sold to Grand Duke Ludwig von Baden .

Until the Baden-Württemberg district reform in 1973 , Volkertshausen belonged to the Stockach district .
