The Volkswagen de México SA de CV (Sociedad Anónima de Capital Variable, limited company ) operates the North American factory of Volkswagen -Konzerns and the leasing company Volkswagen Leasing SA de CV and Volkswagen Bank SA Institucion de Banca Multiple.

Its headquarters are in Puebla , where the administration is also located, as well as the country's largest Volkswagen factory (area: 3,000,000 m²). Another production site has been in Silao (near Guanajuato ) since January 15, 2013 with 577 employees and an area of ​​600,000 m². It was the 100th plant of the Volkswagen Group. Another factory of MAN Latin America Indústria e Comércio de Veiculos Ltda has existed since 2004. in Querétaro , where VW products are also manufactured to a small extent ( Volksbus ).

The company was founded in 1964 and has around 14,000 employees. The first automobiles rolled off the assembly line in 1967. The VW plant is the largest employer in the city of Puebla. The VW Beetle was built in the plant until 2003 . The Jetta , Tiguan , Beetle , Golf Variant as well as engines and components are currently manufactured there.

About 90% of the vehicles produced there are exported. From 2000 onwards, production declined due to weak sales in the USA. Production later increased again and in 2007 411,000 vehicles were built in Puebla. At the beginning of 2008, the one millionth New Beetle rolled off the assembly line. The cars made in Puebla are exported to more than 100 countries around the world.

After General Motors and Nissan , Volkswagen de México was the third largest car manufacturer in Mexico in 2007.
