Near Eastern-Egyptian Society

The Middle East-Egyptian Society was an association to promote the science of the ancient Orient ( ancient Near Eastern studies and Middle Eastern archeology ) and later also Egyptology in Berlin .

In January 1886 Hugo Winckler and Felix Peiser founded the Academic-Oriental Association in Berlin . From this, on January 3, 1896, Hugo Winckler founded the Middle East Society for the purpose of promoting Middle East studies on the basis of the monuments ; from 1921 it was called the Middle East-Egyptian Society . In 1904 it merged with the Orient Comité . The company existed until 1944.

From 1896 the society published the messages of the Middle East Society (from 1921 messages of the Middle East-Egyptian Society ), initially in the Wolf Peiser publishing house, Berlin, from volume 14, 1909 in the JC Hinrichs'sche Buchhandlung publishing house , Leipzig.
