Front pipe fuse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pre-pipe fuse in a detonator prevents the unintentional early detonation of a grenade when it is fired. It guarantees the pipe safety and the safe separation distance , which also mask security is called.

A detonation of a shell in the barrel (a so-called barrel burst ) or immediately after leaving the barrel would render the gun unusable and endanger the gun operation . Due to the front pipe fuse , the fuse is only armed when the shell is at a safe distance from the gun.

In order to avoid unintentional detonation of the active charge during the transport and handling of ammunition , most detonators are equipped with a transport lock. The front pipe lock works either separately or in combination with this transport lock.

The front pipe safety is achieved by a mechanism that prevents the detonator's charge from being released up to a defined point on the flight path. There are pre-pipe locks that are equally suitable for both projectiles with twist and for projectiles without twist. In addition, there are systems that have been specially designed only for twist projectiles or specifically only for non-twist projectiles.
