Forward! Forward! smash the bright fanfare was a propaganda song of the Hitler Youth , also known as banner song of the Hitler Youth was designated. After its refrain , the song is also known under the name Unsre Fahne Flattert us ahead .

The text of the song, published in 1933, comes from Baldur von Schirach , the melody from Hans Otto Borgmann . The marching song was first published in the propaganda film Hitlerjunge Quex , which premiered in 1933 . Motifs from the song are used throughout the film, they underline depictions of the Hitler Youth in contrast to the scenes from the socialist “commune” underlaid with the international and jazz motifs . The two stanzas and the refrain signal aggressive readiness to fight, turning to the flag, loyalty to the leader and contempt for death.

During the Second World War , the chorus of the song was integrated into the march of the SS Panzer Division Hitler Youth .

The song is banned in Germany as a symbol for the forbidden organization Hitler Youth according to § 86a StGB . In Austria , similar provisions apply due to Section 3 of the Prohibition Act 1947 .
