The election for the Berlin House of Representatives in 1985 took place on March 10, 1985 and the coalition of the CDU and FDP that had existed since 1983 was confirmed.

For the CDU, first appeared Eberhard Diepgen as a leading candidate to that previously only a year on 9 February to the President elected Richard von Weizsacker had replaced. For the SPD, the former Federal Minister of Finance and Defense, Hans Apel, originally from Hamburg . Apple's professional competence was not in doubt; but many Berliners registered critically that the SPD Berlin had not named a top candidate from its own ranks.

The CDU received 46.4% (–1.6 percentage points), the SPD 32.4% (–5.9 percentage points), the Alternative List (AL) 10.6% (+3.4 percentage points) and the FDP 8 .5% (+2.9 percentage points) of the vote.
