history

Wahlbach, in the background Burbach

The first documentary mention of Wahlbach dates back to the year 1402. As early as August 15, 1326, goods in "Heystern", a farm complex in the Hellertal that was later lost, were mentioned. In 1447 the lung disease destroyed 20 oxen, 20 cattle, 52 cows and 25 calves from October to December.

In 1852 a cemetery was established in Wahlbach , which was expanded in 1883 and has had a morgue since 1972. Its own fire brigade has existed since 1883. There was always a lack of water in the village . When in 1898 an offer to build an aqueduct in the village was received, they accepted directly. But in 1901 there was again a water shortage. So a 560 m long trench was dug up to the Nenkersberg fountain. The first electrical lines were built in 1911. Ewald Bär was the mayor from 1905 to 1943.

In the course of the community reforms , the Burbach office was dissolved on January 1, 1969 and Wahlbach was incorporated into the large community of Burbach . Today Wahlbach is the third largest district of Burbach after Holzhausen. In terms of area, Wahlbach is the largest district in the municipality of Burbach with 12.39 km².

In the Burbach district, mainly in the Buchhellertal towards Lippe, there were some, in part, larger pits, such as B. Peterszeche , Green Hope , Viktorsfeld and Crone . (see also list of Burbach mines )
