Sir Walter Baldwin Spencer

Sir Walter Baldwin Spencer (born June 23, 1860 in Stretford , Lancashire , † July 14, 1929 in Navarino ) was an Australian biologist , anthropologist and ethnologist of British origin.

His works on the Arunta (together with Francis James Gillen ) and the northern tribes of Central Australia are famous . He was named Chief Protector of Aborigines by the government .

He published the report on the work of the Horn Scientific Expedition to Central Australia .

In 1919 he was knighted as Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George . The Royal Society of New South Wales awarded him the Clarke Medal in 1923 . The Cape Spencer in Antarctica bears his name.
