Walter Bauer (chemist)
Walter Hermann Bauer (born February 12, 1893 in Arnstadt , † 1968 in Darmstadt ) was a German chemist . As head of the research laboratory at Röhm & Haas , he succeeded in synthesizing polymethyl methacrylate , better known under the trade name Plexiglas .
Life
Bauer studied chemistry and physics in Jena and Munich . During his studies in 1911 he became a member of the Hercynia Jena country team .
Prizes and awards
In 1962, Bauer was awarded the Rudolf Diesel Medal by the German Institute for Invention (DIE) for his research in the field of plastics chemistry.
