Walter Eschrich

Walter Eschrich (born October 4, 1924 in Breslau ; † July 2, 2005 in Göttingen ) was a German botanist and forest scientist .

Life

Eschrich studied botany , zoology and chemistry at the University of Bonn in the 1940s . In 1953 he received his doctorate there , and in 1960 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on pharmaceutical botany.

After two years as a professor at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn , he became full professor of the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and director of the Institute for Forest Botany in 1968 . Among other things, he was visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and at the University of California (UC) in Davis . In 1992 he retired .

He became known in specialist circles, among other things, for the volume flow theory of phloem transport , which he founded in 1973 together with Ray F. Evert .
