Walter Goldinger
Walter Goldinger (born March 15, 1910 in Vienna ; † February 15, 1990 ibid) was an Austrian historian and director general of the Austrian State Archives .
Life
Goldinger studied history, German, geography and art history at the University of Vienna . After receiving his doctorate in 1932, he completed the course at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research and passed the state examination there in 1933 . In 1935 he joined the archives service as part of the Austrofascist labor service. At first he worked in the Archives of the Interior and the Justice , which after 1945 was named General Administrative Archives . From 1946 to 1952 he also headed the archive of the University of Vienna .
In addition , he completed his habilitation in 1950 for historical auxiliary sciences with special emphasis on archival sciences, and in 1955 the habilitation was extended to Austrian history. From 1956 to 1972 he was director of the General Administrative Archives. In 1964 he became ao. Professor. In 1973 he was appointed General Director of the Austrian State Archives and remained so until his retirement in 1975.
Goldinger was active in the heraldic-genealogical society "Adler" , where he became vice-president, and was a board member of the Association for the History of the City of Vienna .
