Walter M. Robertson

Walter Melville Robertson (born June 15, 1888 - November 22, 1954 ) was an American two-star general (major general).

Life

Robertson came from a family established in the state of Virginia . He graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point in 1912 and then became an infantry officer. During the First World War he was not used overseas. Between the wars he commanded various infantry units and associations, most recently the 9th Infantry Regiment (1940–1941).

From December 1941 to May 1942 Robertson was deputy commander of the 2nd US Infantry Division and its commander until June 1945. He led the division during the conquest of mainland Europe in World War II . Since June 1945 he was commanding general of the XV. US Corps. He retired in June 1950.

Robertson was married but had no children.
