The Wanderers Stadium is a Cricket - Stadium in the South African city of Johannesburg . The stadium serves as the home of the Highveld Lion .
history
The cricket stadium was built in 1956 to replace the Old Wanderers Stadium as the home of cricket in the city.
Capacity and infrastructure
The stadium has a seating capacity of 34,000. The two ends are called Corlett Drive End and Golf Course End .
use
The stadium is primarily used for cricket. International cricket took place here from the start, but was discontinued in 1970 with the stop of international cricket in South Africa. It did not continue until 1991. When Cricket World Cup 2003 here five games were held, including the final. During the period in which the Ellis Park Stadium was being renovated, the Wanderers Stadium also served as an alternative location for rugby games.
