The Nauruan national coat of arms is one of the two official emblems of the island state, along with the national flag . The design of the coat of arms of Nauru dates from 1968 after the declaration of independence ; it officially began to be used in the early 1970s.
description
The shield is divided and split at the bottom.
- Above, in gold on a woven backing, the silver chemical symbol for phosphorus .
- In the lower heraldic right (from the viewer's left) silver field a black frigate bird sitting on a red crutch over five blue waves.
- In the lower left blue field a branch of tomano flowers .
The shield, which is bent out to the sides, is adorned with golden cords. On the sides fittings made of palm fronds , feathers of the frigate bird and shark's teeth .
A twelve-pointed silver star on the upper edge of the shield is taken from the flag . The floating silver band with black capital letters bears the name of the island in Micronesian Nauruan : Naoero .
The silver ribbon under the shield bears the motto of the Republic of Nauru in black capital letters: " God's Will First "

symbolism
The woven underground symbolizes the population of Naurus, the frigate bird the fauna there and the Tomano branch the flora ; the chemical symbol for phosphorus promoting phosphates . The shield is surrounded by badges of the chiefs they wore to celebrations - strings of palm fronds , frigate bird feathers, and shark's teeth .
