The Warme Bode is the 23 km long, south-western and orographically right main strand source river of the Bode in the Upper Harz in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt . It arises itself from the confluence of the Großer and Kleiner Bode.

Surname

The name Warme Bode is a combination of that of Bode and the adjective warm , an adjective from Old High German - back then still as waram and since Middle High German as warm . The names Warme Bode and Kalte Bode caused by the actual existing temperature difference between the two rivers  - about 2  K . “The distinction” between the two names “has been documented since the middle of the 15th century.” The source river, originally called Wormbode , could be named after the Wurmberg ( Wormberg ). From Wormbode which was then over time Warme Bode . " Kalte Bode is probably just a misunderstood contrast to it". In addition to Wormbode , there was also the name Wurmbode . There is also the Wormke , a tributary of the Kalten Bode .

Spring streams

Great Bode

The Große Bode is the left, about 4.5 km long source stream of the Warmen Bode. Its source is at the foot of the Brocken in the southern part of the so-called Brockenfeld, on the state border with Saxony-Anhalt. The origins of the Kalten Bode, the Ecker and the Oder are close by . The Große Bode flows mainly to the south, on the western slope of the Wurmberg towards Braunlage . The course of the stream is characterized by small waterfalls and steps , including the Upper Bodefall . In front of Braunlage it unites with the Kleine Bode to form the Warmen Bode.

Little Bode

The 2.5 km long Kleine Bode is the right source stream of the Warmen Bode. It rises at the foot of the Achtermannshöhe .

Course of the Warmen Bode

After the confluence of the source brooks, the Warme Bode flows over the Lower Bodefall to Braunlage. On the northern outskirts of the village it flows into the Ulrichswasser from the northwest and then into the Schultalwasser. The “White Bridges” are reached southeast of Braunlage. In the widened river valley, the Bremke flows into the Warme Bode from the north at the former fox farm. The Bremke is directional. From here on, the course of the Warmen Bode represents the border between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt (former inner German border). Where the Warme Bode leaves Lower Saxony, the Brunnenbach flows from the west into the Warme Bode, which also determines the direction of the course at this point. The Bode now flows further in the direction of Sorge in Saxony-Anhalt . From the state border with Saxony-Anhalt it runs parallel to federal highway 242 through Tanne . Now the Warme Bode runs in a lovely valley and then joins the Kalten Bode to the Bode at Königshütte , below the ruins of the Königsburg .

Dam project

As part of the “Bodewerk” dam joint project, which was planned before the Second World War  , a pre -dam for the Warme Bode was planned - as was also the case on the Kalten Bode . Construction work has started. An embankment embankment is still present in the valley on the federal road 242 . Two labor camps were built near the Wietfeld settlement. The Second World War interrupted the work. While the “Bodewerk” in the Eastern Harz was completed after the Second World War, including the Mandelholz flood protection basin on the Kalten Bode and in particular the Rappbode dam , the dam in the Warmen Bode valley was never implemented.
