Warriors - Operation in Bosnia (original title: Warriors ) is a two-part British TV drama from 1999 , which describes the experiences of a group of British blue helmet soldiers in the Bosnian war .

background

Shortly after the outbreak of the Bosnian War in 1992, UNPROFOR soldiers were stationed in Bosnia and Herzegovina . The film depicts the experiences of the crew of a Warrior armored personnel carrier of a British blue helmet battalion in the Vitez area in 1992/93. The soldiers are confronted directly with the consequences of the ethnic conflict. Their mission, which is limited to self-defense, largely forces them to remain inactive, even in the face of the most serious war crimes. The soldiers follow the sometimes traumatic experiences even after their return.

The people and events depicted are fictional, but have a real background to the ethnic cleansing in the Lašva Valley in 1993. These were the subject of several war crimes trials before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia . In preparation for the shooting, director Peter Kosminsky conducted numerous interviews with soldiers involved in the real mission.

The film was produced for the BBC and first broadcast on BBC One . It was first broadcast on German and French-speaking television in November 2000 on ARTE .

criticism

"A poignant television play of documentary accuracy that dispenses with anything speculative and leaves you breathless in its individual observations."
