The Warsaw Chamber Opera ( Polish: Warszawska Opera Kameralna ; short: WOK) is an opera house that has been operating in Warsaw since 1961 .

The Warsaw Chamber Opera was founded in 1961 by Stefan Sutkowski , who later became director for many years, Jan Kulma , Joanna Kulmowa , Zofia Wierchowicz , Andrzej Sadowski and Juliusz Borzym and performed La serva padrona by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi on September 4, 1961 .

Since 1986 she has appeared in her own theater building, a palace by Simon Gottlieb Zug , in which the Studencki Teatr Satyryków was previously located. The Warsaw Chamber Opera has been organizing regular opera festivals since the 1990s. In 1991, for example, the Mozart Festival (in Polish Festiwal Mozartowski ) was brought into being, at which the entire scenic work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is performed at an opera house. Since then, the festival has been held annually in June. In 1993 the Festival of Baroque Opera ( Polish Festiwal Oper Barokowych ) took place, from which the Claudio Monteverdi Festival ( Polish Festiwal Claudia Monteverdiego ), which has been taking place cyclically since 1995 , arose, at which the operas L'Orfeo , Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria and L'incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi .

For the 400th anniversary of the opera as a genre, 57 plays were performed at the Warsaw Chamber Opera from October 2000 to October 2001.

In December 2012 Jerzy Lach took over the management. He was followed by Alicja Węgorzewska-Whiskerd in October 2016 .
