The Altenburg-Südost water tower is a 39 meter high water tower at Ahornstrasse 13a in Altenburg , Thuringia .

history

The storage container has a volume of 100 cubic meters. It was built in 1964 and finished off in 1968 with sheet metal cladding on the street. Its purpose was to ensure the water supply for the southeast part of the city. Today it serves as an expansion tank for the Hellwiese pressure boosting station and the Weißer Berg waterworks. During the renovation from February to November 2000 at a cost of 1.4 million DM, a fire broke out in May that the fire brigade had to put out for 21 hours.

Construction

A round shaft made of reinforced concrete stands on a 2 meter thick reinforced concrete foundation, in which an elevator goes to the water tank. This consists of an 8 mm thick welded steel structure. In addition to flight lighting systems , parabolic antennas and radio masts are located above .
