Wayne Thiebaud

Morton Wayne Thiebaud (born November 15, 1920 in Mesa , Arizona , † December 25, 2021 in Sacramento , California ) was an American painter and an important representative of American Pop Art .

biography

Wayne Thiebaud's parents were Mormon supporters . Between 1921 and 1933 the family lived in Long Beach , Salt Lake City and Los Angeles . At Long Beach Polytechnic High School , Thiebaud showed an interest in sports, music, theater and drawing lessons - he was particularly fond of caricaturing his classmates and teachers. During the summer vacation of 1936 he worked in the animation department of Walt Disney Studios . During World War II , he served in the United States Army Air Forces and was near Sacramentostationed. In 1949 he enrolled as a student at San José State University (Bachelor of Arts) and from 1950 to 1953 at California State University (Master of Arts) in Sacramento. Between 1951 and 1961 he was a lecturer at Sacramento City College , where he taught, among others, the later pop artist Mel Ramos , and from 1960 to 1976 at the University of California at Davis .

For the twelfth birthday of the search engine Google on September 27, 2010, he designed a logo, a so-called doodle , which appeared on the homepage on that day.
