Weber Shandwick is one of the largest public relations networks in the world and is headquartered in New York City. Weber Shandwick is part of the US Interpublic Group of Companies .

history

Weber Shandwick emerged in 2000 from the merger of Shandwick International and the Weber Group. Shandwick International was founded in 1974 and grew to become the UK's largest PR agency by 2001 . The Weber Group was founded in 1987 in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA). After the two agencies merged internationally at the end of 2000, the merger in Germany followed in January 2001. Shortly thereafter, Weber Shandwick bought the PR Bonn agency in Germany, of which McCann Erickson was the sole shareholder at the time . In September of the same year, the network was again significantly expanded through the acquisition of BSMG Worldwide (previously Bozell & Jacobs, founded in 1921).

Together with its affiliates, Weber Shandwick has 123 offices in 81 countries worldwide. In Germany the agency is represented in Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne and Munich, of which the latter is the German headquarters. Weber Shandwick offers full-service advice in all areas of communication and is a member of the Society's Public Relations Agencies (GPRA).

The agency's list of clients includes many global companies and organizations.

criticism

In an article in ZEIT Online 2010, Weber Shandwick was accused of lobbying for manufacturers of medical aids as part of the My Choice initiative, disguised as a citizens' initiative. The German Council for Public Relations (DRPR) examined the allegations and publicly acquitted Weber Shandwick of the allegation of concealing the sender in the council verdict of October 1, 2010.
