Weißenseer tip

The Weißenseer Spitze (short: tip ) is a location in the Berlin district of Weißensee in the Pankow district north of the intersection of Prenzlauer Allee / Prenzlauer Promenade ( Bundesstrasse 109 ) with Wisbyer and Ostseestrasse .

The name is derived from the border between the districts of Pankow , Prenzlauer Berg and Weißensee (independent districts from 1920 to 2001), which forms a point to the south at this point. The top is bounded by the eastern side of Heinersdorfer Straße and the western side of Gustav-Adolf-Straße .

The Weißenseer Spitze was part of the Weißenseer Feldmark at the intersection of the municipal boundaries of Berlin and the suburbs of Pankow and Weißensee at the time. This area had the shape of an acute-angled triangle west of the road leading from Berlin to French Buchholz . Viewed from Weißensee it formed a peak. During the urban development of the Weissensee manor, this name was applied to the area around the intersection of Heinersdorfer Strasse / Gustav-Adolf-Strasse / Prenzlauer Chaussee . The original tip came with the reorganization of the districts and districts, however, now to Pankow .

At the beginning of the 1960s, the road layout at the intersection described was changed significantly. As a result of the demolition of two residential buildings and the closure of Heinersdorfer Straße, a town square was created on part of the area , which is used for weekly markets and events. At the suggestion of the nearby Berlin art and culture center Brotfabrik , the place was renamed Caligariplatz on September 7, 2002 . The name is reminiscent of the classic film Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari , which was made in the film studios of the municipality of Weißensee in 1919. Directly opposite is the building of the former Delphi cinema , where the film had its world premiere in 1920.
