Weidebrunn is a medium-sized district of the town of Schmalkalden which is located in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in Thuringia . This district is known for its metal processing companies.

location

The district Weidebrunn is located northeast of Schmalkalden on Landesstrasse 1026 and Landesstrasse 2608 in mountainous terrain. The steep slopes and mountains are forested. The Feldmark is laid out like a rain and is cultivated with meadows and fields. The street village is stretched over a kilometer and is located in the Schmalkalde floodplain . The slopes of the 569 meter high Kohlberg are made of red sandstone. At the bottom, just before the Schmalkalde, the karst spring Springe rises and after a few meters flows into the Schmalkalde.

history

On December 31, 1014, the village with its brook name was first mentioned in a document. This place did not belong to the office of Schmalkalden of the Hessian rule Schmalkalden .

In 2012, around 750 people lived in Weidebrunn. In 1585 there were only 95, in 1948 there were 898 and in 1990 there were 463 people. In 1835 the new hut was blown. It was expanded in 1870 and closed in 1924. Since 1966, it stands as a technical monument under monument protection and can be visited daily.

Weidebrunn was incorporated on July 1, 1950 and has been part of the city of Schmalkalden ever since.
