The world championship in cherry stone spitting in 2005

The world championship in cherry stone spitting has been held annually at the Düren Annakirmes since 1974 . In a total of six attempts, the participants try to spit a cherry stone as far as possible along a one-meter-wide path without aids. The distance to the unrolled cherry stone is counted, provided it remains on the track.

history

Report on the 2012 World Cup

The idea for this competition came from the moderator K.-G. Breuer and the former fair director Hans Zens (1925-2010) in the course of the 1974 World Cup . Since then, spitting the cherry pit has been an integral part of the Annakirmes and attracts numerous visitors to the train on the police dog sports field on Rurdammweg. In addition to participants from all over Germany, a group from Switzerland has also been a regular guest at the event for several years.

In 1983, eight-time winner Hans-Peter Iven improved the world record by over 3.5 m and broke the 20-meter mark for the first time with 20.59 m. He has also been the record men's world champion since 2013. The current world record is 22.52 m, set in 2017 by the Swiss Thomas Steinhauer. Since 1988 there has been a separate competition for women. The world record for women is 16.01 m, which Andrea Kuck set in 2017. In 1982 a competition for juniors up to the age of 14 was held for the first time. Janek Kuck reached a width of 18.30 m in 2018.
