Wenzel Carl Wolfgang Blumenbach

Wenzel Carl Wolfgang Blumenbach (also Blumenbach-Wabruschek ; born January 1, 1791 in Vienna , † April 17, 1847 there ) was an Austrian statistician and geographer.

After completing his training at Wilhering Abbey near Linz and legal studies at the University of Vienna , Blumenbach turned to topography, mineralogy, technology and statistics. In 1809 he became an employee and in 1813 secretary at the Vienna Cosmographic Institute, a forerunner of the geographic societies. In 1819 he became custodian at the Patriotic Technological Cabinet (which was attached to the Polytechnic in 1840) and from 1829 he was a book censor. Blumenbach found his final resting place in the Sankt Marxer Friedhof .
