Wenzel Wirkner (Václav Wirkner in Czech, born February 25, 1864 in Karlsbad , † February 10, 1947 in Passau ) was an Austrian painter .

Wirkner began his artistic training in Karlovy Vary and Prague . He was active in the German-Bohemian Artists Association and took part in its exhibitions in 1910 and 1912.

From October 18, 1881 he studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich , namely genre painting with Alois Gabl and landscape painting with Otto Seitz . In 1884 he became a student of Johann Caspar Herterich .

His earliest genre paintings were influenced by Art Nouveau , later he mainly dealt with landscape painting.

Following the advice of Professor Max Doerner , Wirkner joined the Samerberg artists' colony in Roßholzen . He took part in the exhibitions in the Munich Glass Palace . In 1909 his works were awarded a gold medal. Around 1900 he created seven pictures for the Chapel of Grace in the Maria Kulm pilgrimage church in Chlum Svaté Maří .

Wenzel Wirkner became a member of the jury and secretary of the artist group "Bund". His works are u. a. in the collections of the Neue Pinakothek in Munich.
