Werner Novak (born July 31, 1951 ) is a former German soccer player.

Career

Werner Novak played until the 1971/72 season with 1. FV Bebra in the Hessian amateur area. The young defender was taken under contract from 1972/73 for the last two rounds in the old second-rate regional league system of Hessen Kassel . Under coach Hans-Wilhelm Loßmann , the man from Bebra made his debut on July 29, 1972 in a 2-0 away win at FC Wacker Munich in the Regionalliga Süd. At the end of the round, the defender had played 18 league games. In the last year of the old regional league, 1972/73, he formed the KSV's main defense together with Otto Kastl , Alfred Resenberg and Friedel Mensink in front of goalkeeper Andreas Burose . With exactly this defense formation, Kassel ended the regional league era on May 4, 1974 with a 1-1 draw at Freiburg FC in 16th place. Novak had scored a goal in 30 league appearances. After a total of 48 regional league games (1 goal) for Kassel, he moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga Tennis Borussia Berlin for the 1974/75 season .

Werner Novak played his first game in the Bundesliga on matchday two of the 1974/75 season , on August 31, 1974, at home against Werder Bremen . In the 4-0 home win against Werder, he formed the defense of Tennis Borussia under coach Georg Gawliczek in front of goalkeeper Hubert Birkenmeier together with Norbert Siegmann , Karl-Heinz Schnellinger and Stephan Hoffmann . He played a total of four games this season. In the end, the Berliners relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga . In the following second division season, 1975/76 , TeBe won the championship in the 2nd Bundesliga under coach Helmuth Johannsen, and Novak contributed to TeBe's return to the Bundesliga in six league games. In the summer of 1976 he was declared a sports disabled person and had to end his professional career.
