Werner Ruf (born October 15, 1937 in Sigmaringen ) is a German political scientist , university professor and peace researcher .

Life

Werner Ruf studied political science and sociology, Romance studies and history in Freiburg / Br. , Paris, Saarbrücken and Tunis and received his doctorate in political science in Freiburg in 1967. From 1967 to 1968 was accepted as a Senior Fellow at the Center for International Studies at New York University . In the 1960s and 1970s he spent several years doing research in North Africa.

From 1971 to 1975 Ruf was appointed professeur associé at the University of Aix-Marseille III , where he took over the CRESM (Center de Recherches et d'Etudes sur les Sociétés Méditerranéennes, now IREMAM: Institut de Recherches et d'Etudes sur le Monde) as Research Director Arabe et Musulman). In 1974 he accepted an appointment as professor of sociology at the University of Duisburg-Essen and in 1982 moved to the University of Kassel , where he was professor for international and inter-social relations and foreign policy until 2003 .

Werner Ruf was a member of the board of the Working Group for Peace and Conflict Research (AFK) for several years and from 2010 to 2013 lecturer at the European Peace University Stadtschlaining / Austria.

In addition, Ruf took on expert opinions for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation , the Foreign Office and the EU Commission .

Werner Ruf is a member of the Peace Research Working Group at the University of Kassel and a liaison professor at the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation .
