Werner Telesko

Werner Telesko (* 1965 in Linz ) is an Austrian art historian and historian .

Life

Werner Telesko studied art history, history and classical archeology at the University of Vienna until 1988 . Until 1990 Telesko was a research assistant at the Historical Institute at the Austrian Cultural Institute in Rome . He then worked for three years as a scientific assistant to the curator in the art collections of the Benedictine monastery in Göttweig . In 1993 he completed his doctorate at the University of Vienna with the dissertation “Göttweiger Illumination of the 12th Century. Studies on manuscript production in a reform monastery ” . Since then he has been a research assistant at the Austrian Academy of Sciences , where he works in various functions. Since 1999 he has been teaching at the institute for art history at the University of Vienna, and in spring 2009 a visiting professorship took him to the “École pratique des Hautes Études” at the Sorbonne in Paris . In 2000 he completed his habilitation at the University of Vienna for medium, modern and modern art history with the book “Napoleon Bonaparte. The modern hero and the visual arts 1799–1815 ” . As one of the youngest humanities scholars, he was elected a corresponding member of the philosophical-historical class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2010 and a full member in 2013. Since January 1, 2013 he has been director of the Institute for Art and Music History Research.

As a specialist in Austrian art of the 18th and 19th centuries, rulers iconography and Christian iconography, Werner Telesko curated exhibitions for several museums:
