The Wersestadion is a football stadium in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Ahlen . It is the venue of the Rot Weiss Ahlen football club and is located directly on the Werse River , after which it is named.

history

At the end of the 1940s, the Glückauf kampfbahn was built near the Ahlen colliery colony for TuS Ahlen 45 eV . After TuS Ahlen was promoted to Regionalliga West in 1996, the club merged with Blau-Weiß Ahlen to form LR Ahlen (now Rot Weiss Ahlen). The stadium, which was getting on in years and was partly ailing, was rebuilt and expanded. Since it reopened in 1997, it has been renamed Wersestadion.

In addition to the Rot Weiss Ahlen league games, international matches for the U-19 , U-20 and U-21 national teams are regularly played in the Wersestadion .

With effect from October 20, 2011, the Wersestadion became the property of the City of Ahlen by reversal regulation .

Furnishing

After the expansion, the stadium will have around 12,500 seats, including 3,000 seats. Of these, 2,000 are in the covered main stand and around 1,000 in the upper tier of the south stand. Around 6,000 of the standing room are covered. A floodlight system suitable for television is available. The away fans are now accommodated behind the goal and not on the covered back straight. For the 2008/09 season, turf heating was installed, which cost 300,000 euros. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season, the south stand was expanded by 1,000 seats and roofed over. The inauguration took place on September 19, 2009. The expansion of the north stand, initially planned for 2010 , was discarded for financial reasons after the club was relegated to the third division .
