A barb is a hook that is attached to an object facing backwards, preventing it from being moved backwards and thus pulled out of something.

Barbs are used, for example, in hunting weapons such as harpoons or fish hooks . Safe barbs make z. B. from one side of the Velcro . But they are also common for waste bins with locking mechanisms that can no longer be opened, e.g. B. weakly radioactive, infectious or other contaminated waste in hospitals, as well as cannula disposal containers.
