Viktor Prokhorovich Jakuschew

Viktor Prokhorovich Jakuschew ( Russian Виктор Прохорович Якушев ; born November 16, 1937 in Moscow ; † July 5, 2001 there ) was a Russian ice hockey player .

Career

During his career the striker played for HK Lokomotiv Moscow . In total, he scored 162 goals in 400 games in the Soviet league. He was appointed to the Soviet national ice hockey team at an early age . On January 1, 1959, he was in a game against the USA for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with a gold medal at the 1964 Winter Olympics . Four years earlier he and his team had already won the bronze medal. For the national team, he scored 50 goals in 134 international matches. At the ice hockey world championships he was elected to the All-Star Team in 1964 and was world champion four times with his team (1963, 1965, 1966 and 1967). In 1963 he was inducted into the " Russian Hockey Hall of Fame ". On January 24, 1968, he played his last international match. Yakushev was attacked by a group of youths in the streets of Moscow and died from serious injuries on July 5, 2001, at the age of 64.
