Wilfried Finke

Wilfried Finke (born April 25, 1951 in Paderborn ; † January 15, 2019 there ) was a German furniture entrepreneur and football official .

Life

Finke, who  grew up in Paderborn , joined the Finke furniture company in 1968, and in 1978 he took over the management of the company , succeeding his late father Franz. Finke the Elder founded the company in 1959. Under Wilfried Finkes management, the company opened branches (partly under the name "Preis-Rebell") in Elxleben (1993), Kassel (1995), Münster (1998), Jena (2004), Oberhausen (2006), in addition to the head office in Paderborn . Beckum  (2010) and Hamm  (2015). In 2011 Finke took over Möbel Lehmkuhl from Dülmen. The “Xara” and “Carré” stores also belonged to Finke, which employed a total of 2000 people. In 2018 Finke sold his company to the KHG group of companies from Berlin, which includes the Höffner furniture retail chain .

From April 1997 to May 2018 Finke was president and main financier of SC Paderborn 07 . He resigned in 2009 and May 2016, but returned to the presidency after a few months. During his tenure, the SCP footballers were promoted to the second division in 2005, 2009 and 2018, as well as the promotion to the Bundesliga in 2014. He also campaigned for the construction of a new stadium , was seen as the driving force behind the construction of the venue, which opened in June 2008, as well as the training and young talent center. He also initiated the outsourcing of the professional team to a corporation. Finke made headlines with the engagement of Stefan Effenberg as Paderborn coach in October 2015. In March 2016, the separation took place again. In January 2020, the general meeting of SC Paderborn posthumously recognized Finke as honorary president .

From 2012 he gave the economically troubled Paderborn Baskets a helping hand and saved them from bankruptcy. He gave the team its name until 2016.

In May 2011 he was awarded the certificate of honor by the city of Paderborn and the city sports association. Finke died of cancer.
