Wilfried Gerhardt

Wilfried Gerhardt (born June 1, 1930 in Dülken ; † December 17, 2010 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German sports journalist and football official .

Professional background

Gerhardt initially completed a traineeship at the Sports Information Service before he was permanently employed as an editor. At the same time he studied English and received his doctorate as Dr. phil . In 1958 he was employed by the DFB as the first press officer in the association's history, and from 1966 he was press officer for the German national team at a total of five world championships . From 1984 he worked as general secretary and full-time head of the DFB headquarters before he had to give up his post for health reasons in 1992 - in the same year he was made an honorary member of the DFB.

Gerhardt was honored for his work as press officer for the 1974 World Cup in Germany and for his numerous international contacts. He also contributed to the development of the first TV contracts.
