Wilhelm Dettmering

Wilhelm Dettmering (born January 19, 1912 in Bremen ; † February 18, 1999 ) was a German engineer and chairman of the Association of German Engineers (VDI).

Life

After studying aero engines in Bremen, Berlin and Braunschweig, Wilhelm Dettmering worked from 1933 to 1945 in Travemünde and Peenemünde in the field of engine construction. After the Second World War , he completed his studies in Braunschweig and in 1948 moved to the TH Aachen as a senior engineer , where he received his doctorate in 1959 and was given a full professorship in 1962. In 1970 he moved to Friedrich Krupp GmbH, where he was responsible for the research department.

From 1973 to 1980 Dettmering was a board member of the Association of German Engineers (VDI), from 1975 to 1977 its chairman. After retiring from active professional life, he became chairman of the Georg Agricola Society and co-editor of the eleven-volume work Technology and Culture .

In 1987 Dettmering received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class .
