Wilhelm Kobelt (born November 5, 1865 in Magdeburg , † October 23, 1927 in Wernigerode ) was a member of the Reichstag and local politician in Magdeburg.

Life

After attending primary school in Magdeburg, Kobelt completed an apprenticeship as a butcher , followed by a period of wandering .

In the Große Schulstrasse and later in the Goldschmiedebrücke in Magdeburg Kobelt ran a small factory for meat and sausage products. On January 5, 1905, he became a member of the Magdeburg city council. In 1907 he entered the Reichstag for the National Liberal Party , where he represented the constituency of Magdeburg until 1912. It can be traced back to his mediation activity in the years 1908/1909 that the old facilities of the Magdeburg Fortress , which separated Magdeburg's old town from the new Wilhelmstadt district , were exposed to such an extent that a traffic route could be opened up.

Kobelt was one of the founding members of the German Democratic Party (DDP), which was formed after the end of the First World War .

From 1914 to 1927 Kobelt acted as an unpaid city council, whereby his commitment was primarily to the economic development of Magdeburg. The focus of his work was the craft . The main task was the expansion of the Magdeburg slaughterhouse south of Wilhelmstadt and the neighboring Halle Stadt und Land into a wholesale market. In 1913 Kobelt had become the first chairman of the Magdeburg homeowners association.

Honor

In his honor, the city of Magdeburg named a street as Wilhelm-Kobelt-Straße .
