Wilhelm Nordemann

Wilhelm Nordemann (born January 8, 1934 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German lawyer , notary a. D. and honorary professor emeritus for copyright law at the Humboldt University of Berlin .

Life

Nordemann studied law in Göttingen and Tübingen. He received his doctorate in Göttingen. In 1963 he joined Friedrich Karl Fromm's law firm in Berlin and specialized in intellectual property law .

Since 1969, Nordemann lectured at the Free University of Berlin . After reunification, he became honorary professor in the law faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin .

He was a member of the Expert Commission on Copyright at the Federal Minister of Justice. In the new copyright contract law that came into force in 2002, he was co-author of the so-called professor's draft. Nordemann is a founding member of the collecting society Bild-Kunst (VG-Bild-Kunst), the Association of German Writers (VS) and the Berlin theater community. For the Association of Writers he was on the administrative board of the collecting society Wort and for the German Composers Association on the supervisory bodies of the Society for Musical Performance and Mechanical Reproduction Rights (GEMA). He was also legal advisor for the Dramatiker Union and the German Association for Teaching Aids (now: Didacta Association).

At the height of the crisis between the Berlin Philharmonic and Herbert von Karajan, Nordemann acted as legal advisor for the Berlin Philharmonic. For many years, Nordemann was a member of the Comité Exécutif of the Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale (ALAI). He was also a member of the specialist committees for copyright and publishing law as well as competition and trademark law in the German Association for Industrial Property and Copyright Law (GRUR). From 1991 to 2018 he worked as a lawyer and partner at Boehmert & Boehmert. He has not been a lawyer since 2018. Spiegel-Online even calls him the “copyright pope”. His specialty areas are copyright law, copyright contract law and competition law. His daughter Anke Nordemann-Schiffel and his sons Axel and Jan Bernd Nordemann work in the Nordemann law firm, which split off from the Boehmert & Boehmert law firm on January 1, 2020 and formed from the former Wilhelm Nordemann law firm.Wilhelm Nordemann joined the "Medal for special services to German music" awarded by the German Composers 'Association and the "Golden Needle" of the Dramatists' Union.
