Wilhelm Pinsker

Wilhelm Pinsker (born October 22, 1945 in Vienna ) is an Austrian population geneticist , biologist and zoologist.

Life

In November 1973, Pinsker was at the Vienna University majoring in zoology for Dr. phil. PhD. In November 1984 he completed his habilitation in genetics at the University of Tübingen and in February 1988 at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna. From January 1997 until his retirement in December 2003 he taught as an associate professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna. From 1971 to 1974 Pinsker worked at the Institute for General Biology at the University of Vienna. From 1974 to 1986 he worked in the population genetics department at the Institute for Biology II at the University of Tübingen. From 1987 to 2003 he worked at the Institute for Medical Biology at the University of Vienna. Since 2003 he has been a freelancer in molecular systematics at the Natural History Museum Vienna .

Pinsker also held chairs at the Universities of Vienna (introduction to genetics, biology for medicine, genetics for medicine, molecular biology of the cell, population and evolutionary genetics, developmental genetics , cytogenetics , molecular evolution ), Tübingen (biology for medicine, population genetics) and Salzburg ( Population genetics).

Pinsker's field of research encompasses the molecular biology of animals and plants, including marmots , birds of prey , wall lizards , real magpies , spruce and fruit flies .

Pinsker is a member of the German Zoological Society .

Dedication names

In 1998, the two biologists Anita Gamauf and Monika Preleuthner from the Natural History Museum Vienna named the Mindanao- boned eagle ( Nisaetus pinskeri ) in honor of Wilhelm Pinsker.
