Friedrich Wilhelm Jakob Wunder (born May 23, 1898 in Alsenborn , Rheinpfalz , † August 31, 1991 in Erlangen ) was a German zoologist and ichthyologist .

Life

Family and education

The Protestant baptized Wilhelm Wunder, son of the chief medical officer and district doctor in Bayreuth Dr. med. Karl Wunder and his wife Lore née Bollenbach, graduated from the humanistic grammar school in Kaiserslautern. He then turned to studying medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He later switched to studying physics and natural sciences , and in 1921 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. nat.

Wilhelm Wunder married Gertrude nee Mugler for the first time. The daughters Erika and Ingrid came from this connection. In his second marriage he was married to Waltraud nee Schneider. He died in the late summer of 1991 at the age of 93 in Erlangen.

Professional background

After graduating Wilhelm wonder held the post of Research Assistant at the Zoological Institute of the University of Rostock , in 1923 he moved to the same function at the Zoological Institute of the University of Breslau , 1925 habilitated himself as a lecturer for the subject of Zoology, 1930, he was appointed associate professor of Zoology and Fisheries Biology, in 1938 he was entrusted with the management of the research station for pond management and fish farming.

In 1945 Wilhelm Wunder fled from Breslau to Bayreuth. In the same year he was appointed head of the research station for pond management at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg , where he taught as an adjunct professor from 1948 and as an associate professor from 1958. Wilhelm Wunder retired in 1964 .

Wilhelm Wunder emerged in particular through fundamental contributions to carp breeding and pond management , to fish diseases and their healing as well as to the regeneration of fish.
