Willi Grün (theologian)

Willi Grün (born August 20, 1910 in Frankfurt am Main ; † March 21, 2005 in Bad Salzuflen ) was a German Baptist theologian and clergyman, lecturer in the New Testament subject at the Theological Seminary in Hamburg-Horn and from 1965 editor at Oncken- Publishing house in Kassel .

Life

After graduating from school, Willi Grün studied at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Frankfurt am Main from 1930 and obtained his doctorate in philosophy in 1934 . The topic of his dissertation was: Spener's Social Achievements and Thoughts. A contribution to the history of the poor and church pietism in Frankfurt a. M. and in Brandenburg-Prussia . From 1934 to 1936 he worked as a pastor in the Baptist congregation Hamburg-St. Georg , who later relocated to Hamburg-Hamm . At the same time he studied at the Theological Seminary of the German Baptists , which at that time had its seat in Hamburg-Horn .

In 1936 he moved to the Baptist church in Lübeck (Täuferstraße), where he completed his probationary period (vicariate). In 1939 he was recognized as a pastor of the Union of Baptist Congregations . Subsequently, Grün worked in the Oldenburg Baptist Church until 1951 . From there, the leadership of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches appointed him to be a lecturer at their pastoral training center in Hamburg-Horn. The main focus of his teaching was the New Testament. He also taught philosophy, psychology , logic and New Testament Greek .

After fourteen years as a lecturer, Willi Grün went to Oncken-Verlag in Kassel in 1965 , where he took over the editing of the Evangelical-Free Church weekly magazine Die GEMEINDE . He remained in this position until he retired in 1975.

In addition to his teaching and editorial service, Willi Grün was active in various governing bodies of his free church . He also wrote several books and numerous essays on mainly practical theological topics.
