William Edwin Baldwin

William Edwin Baldwin (* 28. July 1827 in Stateburg , South Carolina ; † 19th February 1864 in Alabama ) was a brigadier general of the Confederate in the Civil War .

Life

Baldwin was born in South Carolina, but his parents moved to Mississippi when he was a child . When he was an adult, he ran a book and general store in Columbus . After spending several years at the same time in the local militia was active, he joined the outbreak of civil war in 1861 in the army of the Confederate one where he served as Colonel of the 17th Mississippi Infantry - regiment first for Pensacola , Florida , was ordered then to East Tennessee . In an attack on Fort Donelson , Baldwin was captured by Union forces and imprisoned at Fort Warren .

Upon his release, he was made brigadier general and command of a brigade of regiments from Mississippi and Tennessee in western Tennessee . After participating in several campaigns, he was captured again. After he was released again, he was posted to Mobile , but on the way there he had a riding accident due to a broken stirrup and died as a result on February 19, 1864.
