William T. Carroll

William T. Carroll (born June 25, 1902 in Torrington , Connecticut , †  October 25, 1992 there ) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1951 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Connecticut.

Career

William Carroll attended Torrington High School and then worked for the Brooks Bank and Trust Company in Torrington for 25 years . He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1945 and 1947 he was State Treasurer of Connecticut. In July 1948 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia , on which President Harry S. Truman was nominated for re-election. That same year Carroll was elected lieutenant governor of Connecticut alongside Chester Bowles . He held this office between 1949 and 1951. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1950 it was not confirmed.

In 1952 and 1954, William Carroll ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate and the office of governor of Connecticut. Between 1953 and 1957 he was mayor of his hometown of Torrington. Then he ran a real estate company in Hartford . He died on October 25, 1992 at the age of 90 in Torrington, where he was also buried.
