William Ferguson "Bill" Thomson (born March 23, 1914 in Troon , United Kingdom ; † August 6, 1993 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League from 1930 to 1949 played.

Career

Bill Thomson began his career as a hockey player in the junior team of the Kenora Thistles, for which he was active in the 1930/31 season. He then played for six years for the amateur team Ports Athur Ports - later renamed Bearcats or Indians. With the team from Port Arthur he represented Canada at the 1936 Winter Olympics. Following the tournament, he stayed in Port Arthur for a year before switching to professional ice hockey. In the 1937/38 season, the winger first played for the Syracuse Stars from the International-American Hockey League . With this he also began the following season before he moved to the Pittsburgh Hornets within the IAHL .

From 1939 to 1941 Thomson was on the ice for the AHL participant Indianapolis Capitals . He spent the 1941/42 season with the Omaha Knights of the American Hockey Association . From 1942 to 1945 he ran again for the Indianapolis Capitals in the AHL. Parallel to his numerous stations in the minor leagues , he also played a total of ten times for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League .

From 1945 to 1949 Thomson ran for the St. Louis Flyers and Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League and the Minneapolis Millers , Tulsa Oilers and Dallas Texans in the United States Hockey League and the Seattle Ironmen from the Pacific Coast Hockey League . Subsequently, the 1932 Olympian ended his career at the age of 37.

International

For Canada , Thomson took part in the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where he and his team won the silver medal.
