Windows Embedded 7 is based on Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 and is the successor to Windows Embedded 2009 . The internal version number is the same as in Windows 7 NT 6.1. Windows Embedded 7 was released on April 27, 2010.

Windows Embedded 7 includes Windows Vista and Windows 7 features such as Aero , SuperFetch , ReadyBoost , BitLocker Drive Encryption , Windows Firewall , Windows Defender , Address space layout randomization , Windows Presentation Foundation , Silverlight 2 , Windows Sidebar , Windows Media Center and Internet Explorer 8 . It is also the first Windows Embedded to be available in a 64-bit version.

Windows Embedded Standard 7 is the standard version of Windows Embedded 7. It contains all the standard components of Windows Embedded. It is intended for the use of industrial machines and general embedded systems . Support ends on October 13, 2020.
Windows Embedded POSReady 7
Windows Embedded POSReady 7 is intended for cash register systems and ATMs . There are more adapted components for payment systems. POSReady stands for P oint O f S erviceReady.
Windows Embedded Compact 7
Windows Embedded Compact 7 ( Windows CE 7) is for very small computers, e.g. B. intended consumer electronics devices such as set-top boxes or video game consoles . It is very easy on the hardware and already runs with 512 MB RAM.
Windows Thin PC
Windows Thin PC is based on Windows Embedded 7 and is intended for very old computers with less than 512 MB RAM. It is the successor to Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs . Support ends on October 12, 2021.
