Wings for Life is a nonprofit foundation for spinal cord research , which has set itself the goal of paraplegia to make as a result of spinal cord injury curable.

Goal and way of working

The aim is to find a cure for paraplegic patients. To this end , the state-recognized foundation uses donations to support promising research projects around the world to heal the injured spinal cord. The sponsored scientists work at well-known institutes such as Harvard Medical School ( USA ), Cambridge University ( Great Britain ), the Karolinska Institute (Sweden), the University of Vienna (Austria) and the Charité in Berlin (Germany). An international advisory committee, consisting of scientists and clinicians in the field of spinal cord research, supports the foundation in the selection of promising scientific projects. Wings for Life guarantees that 100% of the donations received will be used for research. All administrative costs of the foundation are borne by the Red Bull company .

history

The driving forces are the two-time motocross world champion Heinz Kinigadner and Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz . A tragic accident of Kinigadner's son Hannes during a benefit motocross race in 2003, which resulted in severe paraplegia, was the decisive impetus to set up the foundation.
