The bison enclosure Hardehausen is a 170 hectare game enclosure in the East Westphalian town of Warburg in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The bison enclosure was created in 1958 in the Schwarzbachtal between the districts of Scherfede and Hardehausen . On the site, bison from the lowland-Caucasus line , tarpans (since 1959), wild boar , white deer (since 1998) and, since 2008, lowland bison are kept and bred in various spacious enclosures . The enclosure was the first in Germany to keep both breeding lines of bison at one location.

For the 50th anniversary, the International Wisent Congress was held in Hardehausen, at which Hardehausen was designated as one of four German regional centers to support bison breeding at 72 locations across Germany. In the Forest Information Center Hammerhof, in addition to fully prepared bison and bison, the breeding successes with 177 calves of the mountain bison (as of 2017) are documented. Furthermore, in 2008 a 12 meter high wildlife observation tower ("Wisentturm") was built. The enclosure is run by the Landesbetrieb Wald und Holz and is freely accessible all year round.
