Vladimir Anatolyevich Zubkov
Vladimir Anatoljewitsch Zubkov ( Russian Владимир Анатольевич Зубков ; born April 30, 1948 in Novosibirsk ) is a former Soviet wrestler . He was a four-time Greco-Roman style world champion in paper weight .
Career
Vladimir Zubkov began wrestling as a teenager in Novosibirsk . He concentrated entirely on the Greco-Roman style. The only 1.50 meter tall athlete wrestled as senior in paper weight, the lightest weight class, which was only introduced in 1969 by the international wrestling federation (FILA) and had its weight limit of 48 kg body weight.
His first start at an international championship was the same at the 1970 World Cup in Edmonton . There he won victories over the consistently very strong wrestlers Hizir Sari from Turkey , Henrik Gál from Hungary , Rahim Aliabadi from Iran , Raimo Hirvonen from Finland and Bernard Szczepański from Poland . He was in the final, in which he lost against Gheorghe Berceanu from Romania on points. He became vice world champion .
At the World Championships in 1971 in Sofia , he then succeeded in winning the first paper weight title. Victories over Rahim Aliabadi , Matsuda from Japan and others were enough for him . Raimo Hirvonen and a tie against Hizir Sari .
In 1972 he started for the first time at a European championship. In Katowice he lost after four wins against Stefan Angelow from Bulgaria and Gheorghe Berceanu and therefore had to be satisfied with the bronze medal . Despite this performance, which was not entirely satisfactory for a Soviet wrestler, Vladimir Subkov was also used at the Olympic Games in Munich that year . But he had pitch-black days there, because he lost both fights he fought a. against Stefan Angelow and against Gheorghe Berceanu. He was eliminated and ended up in 16th place.
The Soviet team management continued to cling to him. He rewarded this trust by winning the world championship title in 1973 in Tehran , 1974 in Katowice and 1975 in Minsk . He defeated u. a. with Ryszard Swierad from Poland, Haralambos Holidis from Greece , Ferenc Seres from Hungary , Constantin Alexandru and Gheorghe Berceanu from Romania a . Aleksander Zajączkowski from Poland are all world class athletes. In 1973 in the fight against Stefan Angelow and in 1974 in the fight against Georgi Georgijew from Bulgaria, he was put off the mat together with these wrestlers because of passivity and each was charged with four missing points. Both times, however, Vladimir Subkov was so badly out of the competition that he still became world champion .
In 1976, however, he no longer managed to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in Montreal. He lost the Soviet elimination against Alexei Shumakov . He ended his international wrestling career in 1977 and trained as a sports teacher. At the moment (as of April 2015) he is the base trainer at the Austrian Ring Sport Association based in Salzburg and also trainer for AC Wals .
