Residential street

In Austria, according to the Road Traffic Act 1960, Section 76b, a street that is jointly designated for pedestrian and restricted vehicle traffic and marked as such is referred to as a residential street . In addition, with the 25th amendment to the StVO, Federal Law Gazette I No. 39/2013 , a meeting zone was introduced.

The residential street was a traffic-calmed area in Switzerland . In 2002 the signaling ordinance was revised and the residential street was replaced by the meeting zone by the end of 2003 .

In Germany the residential / play street ( sign 325.1 ) is called a traffic-calmed area .

Entering the lane and playing is permitted in residential streets. However, the permitted vehicle traffic must not be deliberately obstructed.

The respective competent road authority (e.g. the municipality) can, if the safety, ease or fluidity of traffic, especially pedestrian traffic, the unbundling of traffic or the location, dedication or condition of a building or area requires it, by ordinance road locations or Make areas permanent or temporary residential streets. Vehicle traffic in residential streets

When driving out of a residential street, priority must be given to traffic flowing outside the residential street. Parking of motor vehicles is only allowed in the designated places.

Cyclists are allowed to ride side by side in residential streets. Roller skaters are allowed to drive lengthways along the street in residential streets.

Due to the low level of awareness of the different traffic regulations in Europe, residential streets in Austria are often used (e.g. as an abbreviation) to drive through, which makes the signage obsolete due to a lack of police controls.
